This mounding rosette is a rich, blackish purple with thick pointed leaves. In the center of the rosette where new leaves form there’s a beautiful bright lime green glow. During the late summer and into fall the ‘Black Knight’ blooms a gorgeous red flower from a long stem extending from the rosette.
Origin: Garden cultivar
Plant Type: Succulent
Propagation: Propagate this succulent by taking several cuttings from the mother plant about 1” or more in length. Allow the cutting stem to dry and callous over where the plant was clipped for a few days, and then place the cutting into moist soil. Avoid watering and keep out of direct sunlight until the plant has rooted (about 2-3 weeks).
Growth Habit: Mounding Rosette
Light: Direct sunlight
Water: This succulent is extremely drought tolerant. Watering this succulent is only necessary once the soil is completely dry. Be cautious to not over water this succulent to avoid root rot or fungal diseases. In cooler climates, limit watering this succulent during the winter.
Zone: 9, 10, 11
Temperature: Warm dry climates. Avoid freezing temperatures.
Fertilizer: Apply fertilizer during the grow season from spring time through summer, once or twice a week. This will boost the plants natural defenses against environmental stress.
Tips: Use a well-draining soil medium to help avoid root rot! Maintain in an environment with fresh air flow. Remove dead leaves from the bottom of the plant as it continues to grow to avoid creating a haven for mealy bugs, which ‘Black Knight’ are susceptible to.
